Climate and Environmental Justice
The C7 Working Group on Climate and Environmental Justice aims to ensure that the mandatory measures and concrete actions of the Paris Agreement as well as the
Sustainable Development Goals are ambitiously pursued and implemented by G7 governments. Strong commitments and specific implementation measures are needed to limit
global temperature rise to 1.5°C. Moreover, climate finance has to be significantly increased, especially for climate change adaptation.
Climate-related disasters
such as droughts, floods and storms are already among the strongest drivers of poverty and inequality. They pose great risks and immense challenges for livelihoods,
especially for people in low-income countries. The Working Group on Climate and Environmental Justice thus focuses on topics such as adaptation to climate change,
climate financing, the phase-out of fossil fuel subsidies, or biodiversity loss.

Economic Justice and Transformation
Over the past two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically exacerbated inequalities, within and between societies, having particularly affected the world’s poorest and vulnerable people and countries and increased gender inequality. More than 3.3 billion people live below the extended poverty line, between 720 and 811 million people do not have enough to eat. In particular, low and middle-income countries highly indebted and with limited fiscal space are in need of support for economic recovery and to retake the path to achieve SDGs and the Climate Agenda.
The C7 Working Group on Economic Justice and Transformation advocates for an equitable global economic system and for transformative approaches to economic recovery – as opposed to returning to an unsustainable and exploitative ‘normal’. Issues that this Group will deal with include fair tax policy, access to concessional finance (Special Drawing Rights, Official Development Assistance), universal social protection, and mechanisms for the debt relief and debt restructuring.

Global Health
After two years of a global pandemic and over 5,9 million COVID-19 deaths worldwide, health topics will play a major role in the G7 dialogue. The C7 Working Group on Global Health will promote measures that put human rights, equity and global solidarity at the core of pandemic preparedness and response. To address Covid-19 and other health inequalities, health and community systems must be strengthened locally and at national, regional and global level. To leave no one behind, it is essential to ensure universal health coverage and equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics and health technologies. This must be delivered while addressing long-standing global health challenges of today in order to ward off the pandemics of tomorrow. The gap between what was promised and what was ultimately implemented by rich countries has to be closed, for example by helping to remove intellectual property barriers and encouraging sharing of Covid-19 health technologies. At the same, already existing pandemics and health issues such as HIV, tuberculosis and malaria and principles, such as sexual and reproductive health rights and programs targeting the needs of vulnerable populations must not be forgotten, international cooperation on these topics must be fostered and financed.

Humanitarian Assistance and Conflict
According to the UN, a total of 274 million people worldwide are in need of emergency aid and protection in 2022, a 17 per cent increase compared with 2021.
The
climate crisis is hitting the world’s most vulnerable people first and worst. Instability has worsened in several parts of the world, notably Ethiopia, Myanmar, and
Afghanistan and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are exacerbating humanitarian emergencies around the world.
The C7 Working Group on Humanitarian Assistance
and Conflict aims to raise awareness for humanitarian aid issues by making them a priority in the dialogue with the G7. Topics covered in this Working Group include the
need for additional financial resources for humanitarian aid and COVID-19 protection measures as well as the creation of a more effective and efficient humanitarian
system.

Open Societies
The C7 Working Group on Open Societies focuses on ways to deal with human rights abuses and discrimination, corruption, and restrictions of civil society’s space
for action.
In recent years, we have seen a rise in authoritarianism, corruption and discrimination. Activists and civil society organisations around the world
advocate for more democratic, just and sustainable societies. But for years, they have been subject to repression in many countries and have seen their space for action
increasingly restricted. The COVID-19 pandemic in particular exacerbated these trends.
The Working Group seeks to inform and promote the implementation of policies
to protect civil liberties and the civic space, encourages leaders to use diplomatic channels to support activists worldwide and advocates for the prevention of illicit
financial flows.
