Civil7 2022 is an open process for interested actors from civil society organisations worldwide. What does people motivate to engage in this Engagement Group? While the Civil7 Working Groups started their meetings and to draft their statement for the final Communiqué – we want to look back to our Kick-Off Event, where we asked the question: Why does C7 matter to you? There were many responses from the interested participants, members of the Steering Committee and coordinators of the Working Groups, of which we would like to present a few:

“We need to make sure that our world is heading towards a sustainable future, not to self-destruction!”

“It provides platform to engage with the G7 leaders.”

“The C7 is crucial to ensuring accountability for the actions that the G7 take, and those that they don’t – in the interest of the world’s most vulnerable communities, that are facing a terrible overlap of the climate, conflict, hunger, and humanitarian crises – worsened by the pandemic.”

“Because the space afforded to civil society is being restricted. It’s important we monitor these international processes and hold governments accountable.”

“Pushing g7 Governments in their responsibility towards the most affected communities by Climate Crisis and conflicts (also as big donor states).”

“The ability to coordinate and exchange with peer organisations to strengthen our messaging around key issues.”

“I am interested in this process to advance children’s rights and gender equality in humanitarian and conflict contexts.”

“Increasingly the G7 has been pivotal in global policies since COVID started, as well as the G20. This is why the C7 is important as an avenue to engage in and to ensure that the G7 reflects our issues and priorities.”

“To join forces, to achieve a stronger voice, which get heard and is taken seriously.”
